Travel & Logistics
Q: Are there any hidden fees, taxes, or extra hospital charges? A: Transparency is our priority. Your initial surgical quote covers the primary procedure and the surgeon’s fee. Please note that Mexican regulations require a standard 4–5% tax on medical services, which is automatically applied to our advertised prices. Additionally, if your procedure requires an extended overnight hospital stay (beyond the standard outpatient recovery), facility fees may apply. Your patient coordinator will provide a fully itemized breakdown prior to your arrival so there are absolutely no surprises.
Q: How should I prepare my payment method to avoid declines in Mexico? A: For your security, most US and international banks will automatically block large, out-of-country transactions. To prevent stressful payment failures at the front desk, you must call your bank or credit card provider 24 to 48 hours before your surgery to explicitly authorize the transaction in Tijuana or Guadalajara, Mexico.
Q: How precise do I need to be about my aesthetic goals for Facial Feminization Surgery (FFS)? A: We encourage you to be extremely detailed. FFS is highly individualized. During your consultation with Dr. Mendez, bring reference photos and be highly specific about your goals for bone contouring (forehead, jaw, and chin). Our surgical team favors a natural, harmonious approach, but if you desire more aggressive contouring, this must be clearly communicated and agreed upon during your pre-op planning.
Q: What happens if I have a complication after I return to the US or my home country? A: This is exactly why we mandate a 12-day minimum recovery stay in Mexico for major procedures like FFS. This window allows our medical staff to monitor you during the most critical healing phase, manage your airway, and safely remove drains and sutures. If you complete your required stay, the risk of severe at-home complications drops significantly. Should you need guidance after returning home, our team provides continuous digital and telehealth follow-up.
Q: Is it safe to fly or drive long distances immediately after surgery? A: Traveling too soon after major surgery increases the risk of Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) or blood clots. We provide a “Travel Clearance” only after your required recovery stay is complete. When you do travel, we recommend wearing compression socks, staying highly hydrated, and walking the aisle of the plane or taking frequent rest stops if driving.
