Understanding Facelift Techniques: SMAS vs. Deep Plane
A SMAS facelift tightens the superficial layer (Superficial Musculoaponeurotic System) for moderate aging, while a deep plane facelift goes under the SMAS, lifting deeper structures (muscles, fat) for more comprehensive, natural, and longer-lasting results, especially for significant sagging and deep folds. This makes the deep plane approach better for moderate to severe aging compared to the SMAS’s mild-to-moderate focus, but it requires more surgical skill and potentially a slightly longer recovery.
SMAS Facelift
- Targets: The SMAS layer, lifting skin and some underlying tissue.
